MAILBAG: HAS STATUE OF GUADALUPE  BEEN FOUND OFF MEXICO IN MIRACULOUS FASHION?

"I have family who heard tell of a fisherman in Mexico who heard a female voice and was inspired to go diving and found a large, very old statue of the Lady of Guadalupe in the Ocean," writes Miriam Valencia. "My uncle went to see it (the fisherman has it laying in front of his hut) and supposedly many miracles have been associated with the statue. I haven't been able to find any news reports online about it. The town is called San Carlos in Sonora , Mexico. Have you heard any reports of this finding?"

Only this, Miriam -- and the photo, above, to the left!

From Wordpress.com, which took it from El Vigia newspaper:

"In other news, more about the Virgen de Gaudalupe that was retrieved from the sea by the fishermen of La Manga. They are saying that it was abandoned and so they brought it in and had no bad intentions when they did it. They say that at no time did they intend for it to be viewed as a miracle and that it also was not serving its intended purpose as an artificial reef for fish. It weighs more than three tons and is more than three meters [nine feet] long. They insist that it was not a robbery as she was covered with stones and sand and not performing as a reef and that they didn’t realize that they had to inform the harbor authorities. They say that she is safe now and should remain in a chapel in La Manga. Apparently they held a meeting yesterday and it has been decided that the Virgen will remain in La Manga."
