Urgent
Call To Mercy And Love
The
Virgin Mary’s annual message to Medjugorje visionary Mirjana Soldo reveals
that God expects much from His people right now. Do not hesitate in showing
mercy and love to each other, the Virgin says in the message which could also be
taken to indicate that time is slowly running short.

MEDJUGORJE
– During Sunday’s annual birthday apparition to Medjugorje visionary Mirjana
Soldo the Virgin Mary presented her children with the great task of giving love
to each other as God the Father loves all of humanity. Seemingly attempting to
bring out the best in all Medjugorje’s millions of followers the Virgin Mary
issued a call that is urgent as well as ambitious:
“Dear
children! Today I call you to love and mercy. Give love to each other as your
Father gives it to you. Be merciful (pause) - with the heart. Do good works, not
permitting them to wait for you too long. Every mercy that comes
from the heart brings you closer to my Son,”
says the
message given to Mirjana.
The
visionary described the Virgin as “resolute and clear” in passing on
this message to the world. During the rest of the 5 minutes long apparition
Mirjana displayed several very different moods ranging from supremely
joyful and shining to very serious and accepting silent nods and headshakes, and
also with tears at the other end of the spectrum.
The
call to give love to each other as God gives His love to man is clearly a task
that could leave all Christians with some new reflections for the rest of this
Lent. God’s love and forgiveness are endless and far beyond human
comprehension. God’s love is unconditional, His goodness is infinite. And yet
when the Virgin Mary issues a call of such ambitions it implies that the grace
needed to answer the call is available.
In
this sense the message to Mirjana Soldo ties up with the Virgin Mary’s two
latest Medjugorje statements. “Pray that you may comprehend God’s love for
each of you,” the Virgin said as part of the regular monthly message of
February 25. “Be of brotherly support to each other,” she said
to Mirjana in an unexpected message on March 2. The latest
call combines the two and further underlines a present need to pray for the
grace of comprehending the greatness of the love of God. Only by growing in
awareness of this love will man be able to function as a mirror of the love of
his Creator in the way that the Virgin calls her children to do.
A
sense of urgency could be said to enter the picture when pondering on the Virgin
Mary’s plea that good works are not delayed for “too long.” Only time can
tell if these words were meant to indicate that, after almost 20 years, the
Medjugorje apparitions are coming to a close. In a much less dramatic and
far-reaching way it could also be said that every Christian has always been
called to live every day as if that very day was his last.
