All spiritual progress, big or “small,” is important. Don’t ever be discouraged. Remember always that we’re spiritual beings having a physical experience.
Your spiritual nature is who you really are.
Up there at the gate of Heaven, the Lord will remove what is not your fault. You don’t bring embarrassment. (How could you be embarrassed in a place where everyone not only knows but understands everything about you?) You don’t take loneliness. (How could you be lonely in a place where there are throngs of relatives?) You don’t bring depression. (It would be impossible to be depressed in a place of such light.) You don’t bring fright. (In Heaven, and even purgatory, the devil can no longer reach you.)
And you will not bring worry because now you know there’s nothing whatsoever to fret about.
There is no apprehension of dying for the obvious reason that there is no longer death. (This we will finally see for ourselves!)
When we endure we transcend. As a man named Alex Hermosillo of Tempe, Arizona, recounted after he “flat-lined”: “I began to fly through the clouds, moving fast, broke through the clouds, going to a destination quickly and all of my fear, shame, and grief that I had experienced on earth was just pulled right out of me. It was the most joyous time of my entire life,” he said, as he encountered many people he knew in this place where the soul now “emanates light.”
“Each one had a different amount of light, some had so much light it was like looking into the sun; others had very little light, but were right there,” he said.
“The light was a reflection of who they were on earth, so if an individual was judgmental, hateful, had vanity and ego, they had a little bit of light.
“Those who were kind, loving, helped others in their community, just good souls, they were shining brighter.”
Anything that diminishes love will be a burden; burdens darken — here and in the hereafter.
“A high spiritual being had graded me and there were two other spiritual beings, one on my right,” recalls another man, G. Gordon Allen, a formerly wealthy financial adviser from Seattle who succumbed in 1993 (and radically altered his life after).
“The thought was communicated to me that all the skills and all the talents that I had been given were for a purpose greater than what I had used them for, that there had been another purpose and they should now be applied to that purpose. That’s the moment my life changed.”
Your gifts were given to serve God and others — in whatever way has been placed before you. Just do your best at whatever it is God sets in your path. Do nothing with the energy of selfishness.
We don’t want to leave this life with selfish ambition. Do everything with “purity of intention” and you will achieve elevated vision. Earth is a place of adversity. It is to develop our spiritual “muscles.” Each time we transcend a difficulty, we grow stronger. Nothing purifies more than sending love to those who attack you. Nothing makes us brighter than love and humility.
Word at those and you should have no fear of death. God simply wants you to try with all your might.
“I was just so focused on my career that I was letting what’s really important fall by the wayside,” said a lawyer who had the same experience. “God loves you more than you’ve ever known and knows your circumstances, what you’re going through. I used to wake up with a knot in my stomach. I wake up now with joy in my heart. I understand now what’s really important.”
