In Guingamp, outrage is running high among the faithful. On September 8, 2025, the statue of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus, located in the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Bon Secours, was the victim of arson. This was another act of anti-Christian vandalism committed on the very day the Church celebrates the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.
The incident occurred during the 6 p.m. Mass when the faithful had gathered to celebrate the Nativity of Mary. The flames destroyed much of the embroidered vestments adorning the statue, the product of artisanal expertise and centuries-old devotion.
