Thank you for posting the video today on the other side of the Black Lives Matter story.
My son is young a police officer in a New England city. He has served for a little more than a year and he was hired by a department that long ago instituted every ACLU recommendation affecting police policy and training. He was hired as part of a class of candidates to be the new face of policing, compassionate policing. He graduated summa cum laude from a major New England college and was called to become a cop at a young age – his name means “protector.” He loved his job because he has had the opportunity to save so many lives – not just from drug addiction and suicide, but from domestic violence, child endangerment, human trafficking, attempted murder and gang rape.
He loves the community he has sworn to protect and serve. Seemingly overnight, he is now vilified. He is hated viscerally. He cannot enter a store or restaurant in uniform without being spat upon, sworn at and jeered out. “Dad,” he says, “they hate me now, and this is an evil thing happening, because I have done nothing wrong, and I am hated as a murderer is hated, and a racially motivated murderer to boot. This is not going away, and I do not know how long I can hang on.”
He was ambushed four separate times last week and was in fear for his life each time. He was kicked in the face in uniform, and could do nothing about it for the mob was seething and he was alone on patrol. He was attacked from behind with bricks and stones. As his father, we pray for all first responders every day, begging the saints and holy angels to guide and protect all of them. Please pray for good police women and men…they are suffering terribly and we must pray for them.
Thank you, from my heart, for sharing the video. All sides of every story matter, especially the truthful side.
God bless you,
Paul
