For example, there are several statistical studies showing that damaged planes, ships, and trains carried fewer people than those that did not have accidents, because more people gave up on making those trips.

So there was someone who worked to reduce the size of the disaster, reducing the number of passengers.

Here we will talk about a unique phenomenon that happened in the Cokeville school, in which dozens of children saw angels and saints act to protect children and teachers, before the explosion of a bomb, with which they threatened a couple of corridors (and about which books were subsequently written and a movie was made).

On Friday, May 16, 1986, David Young and his wife Doris took 154 people hostage at Cokeville Elementary School in Wyoming, USA, most of them school-age children.

Young, a former Cokeville city sheriff, who was fired for misconduct years before, had returned to start a “revolution” and create a sort of “brave new world” where he would be the leader. He demanded a ransom of $2 million per child, while reading an absurd spiritual manifesto, called “Zero equals infinity.”

Although David and Doris were not involved in organized religion, they had strong spiritual convictions and believed in reincarnation.

That provided the basis for his (false) hope that life would be better for him and the children of Cokeville, in a place he envisioned.

David and Doris lived in a mobile home with Princess, David’s youngest daughter from his first marriage.

He had gotten old friends Gerald Deppe and Doyle Mendenhall involved in the idea of ​​getting rich, but hadn’t told them how.

And when Deppe and Mendenhall finally found out about his plans, moments before the hostage crisis unfolded, they refused to participate; he kidnapped them and took them with him so they couldn’t call police.

David, Doris and Princess headed to Cokeville Elementary School and entered the building shortly after 1 p.m. that Friday.

David had the makeshift bomb with the detonator attached to his body, which was stored inside a supermarket cart, while Doris and Princess carried rifles, pistols, ammunition, and the manifest.

But shortly after entering the school, Princess decided to rebel, fleeing the building and driving the van, with Deppe and Mendenhall still inside, to the police.

But the plan went ahead anyway.

Doris went from room to room, directing them to meet in classroom #4, which was 90 square meters.

In such a small place, the teachers and school staff tried to keep the children calm and entertained, watching movies and playing games.

But soon, gasoline fumes from the pump filled the crowded room, convincing David to allow a few windows to be opened.

David ordered the teachers to push the tables and chairs to the edges of the room and to make a square on the floor around the bomb in the middle. 

And he announced that he would shoot whoever crossed the lines, which the schoolmasters called the “magic square.”

The teachers and children then began to pray silently, and that’s when something strange began to happen. 

Some students began to hear heavenly voices telling them that something big was about to happen, but not to be afraid. 

Others saw beautiful figures in white moving around the room.

Some saw deceased family members telling them not to be afraid.

And a radiant woman dressed in white appeared, telling them to start heading towards the windows and everyone would be saved. [scroll for more]

As David began to fidget, some say it was because of the prayer, and others say he may have gotten a glimpse of what the children and some of the staff were seeing.

Some children experienced a feeling of total confidence after the prayer, and that since they had just placed their lives in Heavenly Father’s hands, their part was done — and now it was only a matter of time.

Others felt as if they had a warm blanket around their shoulders, a comfort and joy that they couldn’t explain; they knew in their hearts that they would be fine, no matter what.

Around 3:45 pm David, becoming increasingly agitated by the crying and praying children, handed the detonator cord to the woman and went out to the bathroom.

A boy named Nathan would later say that he was sitting down playing with a toy when something made him look up.

That’s when he saw the angels, shining, in white robes, some holding hands; they glided across the ceiling suspended in midair.

Everyone seemed to have an angel.

Nathan said that his angel had the look of a beautiful and bright woman and had landed on his shoulder.

And the angel allegedly said, “Don’t be afraid, Nathan. Get up and go to the window. The bomb is about to explode.”

And other children began to do the same, because later they would say that their guardian angel had whispered in their ear, “Disaster will happen, but don’t be afraid, your life will be saved,” or words to that effect.

Other children claimed that a large angel stood between the children and the bomb, wings outstretched to protect them. 

And still others spoke of a circle of angels formed around the bomb.

As the children’s prayers grew louder, Doris also grew irritated and begged the teachers to calm the group down.

And because of her shock, the cord on her wrist tightened and the bomb exploded and sent her flying like a flaming torch.

The glass in the windows exploded and the children were able to quickly get out of the building.

John Miller, the music teacher, was shot in the back when David entered the room, but would later recover.

And as Doris was on fire and writhing on the floor in pain; David shot her before committing suicide.

The end result was that only the attackers lost their lives and several children and teachers suffered burns, some very severe, but these later healed without scarring.

After the fact, several children said that they had seen other people helping them.

And some recognized them as their ancestors when they saw family albums, a dead grandmother, a deceased aunt, etcetera.

Some of the deceased gave instructions to the children before the explosion and others were in charge of the evacuation in the middle of the smoke, after the explosion.

Not everyone who was in school that day saw angels or ancestors.

But even they have no doubt that miracles occurred.

Years later, an older boy would say, “I knew exactly what to do and where to go, I couldn’t have done it on my own, I believe what everyone else says they saw.”

But there was more proof of the miracle.

As the smoke cleared in the classroom, etched into the wall just behind the blast area was the burned outline of a large, human-shaped figure, with what appeared to be wings, spreading out to the sides of its body. 

In addition, explosives experts said that based on the size of the bomb, it should have destroyed at least much of the school, but only one of the five detonators went off.

And the explosion went surprisingly upwards, inexplicable to experts.

Investigators discovered that the wires to three of the bomb’s five detonators had been mysteriously severed, preventing detonation.

The explosive dust that should have ignited the air had been miraculously prevented, thanks to the leaking gasoline that reduced the impact.

And although the walls were full of shrapnel, no one was hurt.

It was later learned that David had tested an identical bomb inside an old school bus and it had worked perfectly; in this case, praise God, it had gone horribly wrong.

And as if this were not enough, that day the town was prepared like never before for a disaster, due to a series of lucky events.

For example, the city was full of first responders who were in the area working on a flood that had occurred the previous week. 

And two weeks before the incident, the volunteer fire department had practiced putting out a fire at the elementary school for the first time.

That was perfected when, curiously, an electrical short circuit in the school alarm generated a small fire, making the drill a reality!
