Nagasaki’s Catholics

Before World War II, Nagasaki was the largest Catholic center in Japan.

Statistics from the time indicate that around 60,000 Catholics lived in the region, something between 26% and 33% of the city’s population, an extremely high proportion by Japanese standards.
