From La Croix International:
From the ceiling, the eagle of the papal coat of arms of Pius XI has watched over the only courtroom of the Vatican’s small civil tribunal for decades. The trial of the day on April 12, is somewhat unprecedented – the accused is the man behind the Italian blog Silere Non Possum (“I cannot remain silent” in English), which has leveled insults and frequent criticism of the pontificate and those close to Francis. The case reveals the state of tension behind the walls of the Leonine City, where some sources tell La Croix that “the pope is under attack from all sides.”
Eleven years after his election, Pope Francis faces a scattered revolt, with critics accusing him of authoritarianism and attacking major decisions such as the blessing of homosexual couples, the restriction of pre-Vatican II liturgy, or the reform of the Roman Curia. “Some are waiting for the next pope, others wonder if Francis still has all his faculties,” says one priest residing in Rome.
