Stay tuned, and pray.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Here is what it looks like:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">What might this upcoming &#8220;news&#8221; be?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">One commenter in August speculated: &#8220;Francis will resign?&#8221; (Pope Francis will turn 81 in December; he was born on December 17, 1936.)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The <em>Rorate Caeli<\/em> editor wrote in reply: &#8220;No, not this. But we cannot confirm or deny anything else.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Other commenters speculated it might have something to do with the mysterious message of Fatima, also because the 100th anniversary of the final apparition, October 13, 1917, when the &#8220;Miracle of the Sun&#8221; occurred in Fatima, Portugal, will come in just three weeks, on October 13, 2017.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">In another vein, an Italian website that often has interesting, and occasionally has quite accurate, information has just written, without giving named sources, that the dismissal of the conservative, eloquent and increasingly-respected (also because of two recent books, one entitled <a href=\"http:\/\/click.icptrack.com\/icp\/relay.php?r=38543972&amp;msgid=736136&amp;act=PN81&amp;c=305005&amp;destination=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ignatius.com%2FProducts%2FGON-P%2Fgod-or-nothing.aspx\"><em>God or Nothing<\/em><\/a>, the other <a href=\"http:\/\/click.icptrack.com\/icp\/relay.php?r=38543972&amp;msgid=736136&amp;act=PN81&amp;c=305005&amp;destination=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ignatius.com%2FProducts%2FPOS-P%2Fthe-power-of-silence.aspx\"><em>The Power of Silence<\/em><\/a>) African Cardinal Robert Sarah from his post as head of the Vatican&#8217;s dicastery for the liturgy has already been discussed and &#8220;approved&#8221; by the Pope&#8217;s &#8220;Council of 9&#8221; cardinals, and will be announced in December. (<a href=\"http:\/\/click.icptrack.com\/icp\/relay.php?r=38543972&amp;msgid=736136&amp;act=PN81&amp;c=305005&amp;destination=https%3A%2F%2Fanonimidellacroceblog.wordpress.com%2F2017%2F09%2F20%2Fspifferi-parte-xlv-il-cardinale-sarah-verra-prepensionato-entro-la-fine-dellanno-di-fra-cristoforo%2F\">link<\/a>)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">(<em>Left, Cardinal <\/em><em>Robert Sarah<\/em><em>, and his recent book <a href=\"http:\/\/click.icptrack.com\/icp\/relay.php?r=38543972&amp;msgid=736136&amp;act=PN81&amp;c=305005&amp;destination=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ignatius.com%2FProducts%2FGON-P%2Fgod-or-nothing.aspx\">God or Nothing<\/a>; below, the more recent book by Sarah, <a href=\"http:\/\/click.icptrack.com\/icp\/relay.php?r=38543972&amp;msgid=736136&amp;act=PN81&amp;c=305005&amp;destination=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ignatius.com%2FProducts%2FPOS-P%2Fthe-power-of-silence.aspx\">The Power of Silence<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/click.icptrack.com\/icp\/relay.php?r=38543972&amp;msgid=736136&amp;act=PN81&amp;c=305005&amp;destination=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ignatius.com%2FProducts%2FPOS-P%2Fthe-power-of-silence.aspx\">link<\/a>). Both are available from Ignatius Press, <a href=\"http:\/\/click.icptrack.com\/icp\/relay.php?r=38543972&amp;msgid=736136&amp;act=PN81&amp;c=305005&amp;destination=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ignatius.com%2FProducts%2FGON-P%2Fgod-or-nothing.aspx\">link<\/a><\/em>)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">There have also been scattered reports that a further revision of the Church&#8217;s liturgy is being studied, and may be announced in the relatively near future.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">So the news might have something to do with the liturgy, which, as I argued in my Letter #53 a few days ago, is of supreme importance for the Church&#8230;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Regarding the liturgy, here is a link to full summary report by my colleague, Edward Pentin of the <em>National Catholic Register<\/em>, on the <em>Summorum Pontificum<\/em> Conference held in Rome last week to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2007 papal document of the same name permitting wider use of the old liturgy. (<a href=\"http:\/\/click.icptrack.com\/icp\/relay.php?r=38543972&amp;msgid=736136&amp;act=PN81&amp;c=305005&amp;destination=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ncregister.com%2Fblog%2Fedward-pentin%2Fover-a-thousand-pilgrims-celebrate-10-years-of-summorum-pontificum-in-rome\">Link<\/a>)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">In his report, Pentin cites Cardinal Sarah saying the following a week ago:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cAnthropocentric liturgies [are] unacceptable because they reduce something which is of its very essence supernatural to the level of merely the natural, contrary to the teaching of the Second Vatican Council\u2019s Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy&#8230;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cGod must come first in every element of our liturgical celebration. It is for love of Him and so as to worship Him all the more fully that we set aside and consecrate people, places and things specifically for His service in the Sacred Liturgy&#8230;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cNoise in fact kills the liturgy, kills prayer, tears us and exiles us far away from God\u2026<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cSilence and calm is so important in our churches before, during and after liturgical celebrations. What hope have we of an interior focus on God if what we experience in our churches is yet more distraction and noise?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cThere should be no competition between the more recent rites and the older ones of the one Roman rite: both should be a natural element of the life of the Church in our times.
