He believes it may have been taken to perform satanic worship.\u00a0It was brought to the area by the priest who oversaw construction of the Church Street building in 1852. The item may date back as early as the 1700s.\u00a0\u201cThey took the blessed tabernacle, they ripped it out of the main altar and absconded,\u201d he said. \u201cAccording to police, it looks like they\u2019ve jemmied it out with screwdrivers or a jemmy bar.
