Is it just us, or does there seem to be a somewhat chilling cast to the visages of those rising on the political and social scene?<\/p>\n
We’ll focus, for now, on the liberal (though hardness plays no political favorites).<\/p>\n
One extreme begets another, and the extremes in capitalism — and they\u00a0are<\/em> extremes, with .01 percent of the wealthiest with more total money than 65 million of the lowest; with $258-million apartments in New York; with tech moguls “worth” more than $100 billion (giving precious little to charity, and often avoiding taxes) — is bringing us quickly to the opposite extreme: the rise of socialism.<\/p>\n When Governor Mario Cuomo of New York led the way to a cheer-filled passage of an extreme abortion law in New York State, his face reflected something less than gentleness, as did the faces of those gleeful around him.<\/p>\n The same <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Are they just photos catching them at the wrong moments?<\/p>\n The most widely disseminated photo of the Pennsylvania attorney general announcing his Church-abuse findings, meanwhile, shows staff members who remind us very much of those you might see at Planned Parenthood or in a feminist march.<\/p>\n Are these the glimmerings of some who will engineer a future persecution?<\/p>\n Note that Cuomo is also spearheading legislation to make it easier for the state to prosecute priests and bishops.<\/p>\n He is in effect going after bishops who left themselves wide open.
