That number doesn\u2019t include insects, frogs or bats.\u00a0By any measure, the fires have been devastating, not only for the koala, which ecologists believe has lost a quarter of its population in northern New South Wales, but also for the lesser-known and just as unique southern brown bandicoot and the long-footed potoroo.
