The window of opportunity to stop the spread in countries outside the place where it began is \u201creally narrowing,\u201d he said. \u201cThis outbreak could go in any direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<a title=\"Iran Vote Likely to Shift Power as Virus Deaths Add to Glum Mood\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-02-21\/iran-votes-with-hard-liners-set-to-extend-control-over-state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iran<\/a>, there have been 18 cases and four deaths in just the past two days, Tedros said. One case was also reported Friday in Lebanon that was directly linked to Iran. Public health experts have said that nursing homes are among the most dangerous sites for transmission of the virus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-exrw3m evys1bk0\">The elderly have been particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus, with many of the reported deaths occurring among people\u00a0<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/weekly.chinacdc.cn\/en\/article\/id\/e53946e2-c6c4-41e9-9a9b-fea8db1a8f51\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">60 and older<\/a>. And nursing homes often house their residents in close quarters, which facilitates the rapid spread of viruses.\u00a0The nursing home, the Wuhan Social Welfare Institute, said 11 elderly residents and an employee had been confirmed to have the virus, according to a notice from the municipal civil affairs bureau in Wuhan, where the coronavirus emerged.
