Prayer. Prayer,\u201d she offers. \u201cOne step at a time. No junk food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">But surviving the coronavirus, she said, also may have had something to do with another staple: the nine gin-soaked golden raisins she has eaten each morning for most of her life.\u00a0\u201cFill a jar,\u201d she explained. \u201cNine raisins a day after it sits for nine days.\u201d\u00a0A devout Catholic, Ms. DeClerck led rosary prayers each week at the nursing home and, before the pandemic, was a fixture at weekly Mass.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"This 105-Year-Old Beat Covid. She Credits Gin-Soaked Raisins.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/svc\/oembed\/html\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2021%2F02%2F23%2Fnyregion%2Fnew-jersey-lucia-declerck-covid.html#?secret=VOOkq4uK1g\" data-secret=\"VOOkq4uK1g\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>When she was diagnosed, said the home&#8217;s administrator, \u201cAt first she was a little apprehensive, a little scared, but she said, \u2018God will protect me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As <em>The Times<\/em> added: &#8220;Ms. DeClerck is not the oldest person to beat the virus.\u00a0Europe\u2019s oldest known resident,\u00a0<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/02\/10\/world\/europe\/sister-andre-covid19.html\">Sister Andr\u00e9<\/a>, contracted the virus at 116 \u2014 becoming the oldest known person to have survived Covid-19.
