{"id":4707,"date":"2016-12-27T13:19:20","date_gmt":"2016-12-27T13:19:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/?p=4707"},"modified":"2017-01-10T14:41:18","modified_gmt":"2017-01-10T14:41:18","slug":"bishops-versus-bishop-cardinal-versus-cardinal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/bishops-versus-bishop-cardinal-versus-cardinal\/","title":{"rendered":"Bishop Versus Bishop, Cardinal Versus Cardinal?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3127\" src=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/logoinside.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"45\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/zenit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/francisco-y-benedicto-2.jpg\" alt=\"francisco-y-benedicto-2\" \/>Are we entering a time when it will be bishop against bishop and cardinal against cardinal?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>Let us hope not.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>That was a prophecy when the Blessed Mother appeared at<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spiritdaily.org\/sisteragnes.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Akita, Japan<\/a><\/span>, in the 1970s:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>&#8220;The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see Cardinals opposing Cardinals, Bishops against other Bishops.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>That came right after these words: <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"irc_mi iZffv7b68k6g-pQOPx8XEepE alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/dilemmaxdotnet.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/03\/pope-francis-and-pope-emeritus-benedict.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for pope francis and benedict pray\" width=\"275\" height=\"415\" \/>&#8220;The Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>In recent days and months, there have been conflicts between prelates about everything from geopolitics and ecumenism to the recent papal exhortation\u00a0<em>Amoris Laetitia<\/em> (mainly over Communion for the divorced and civilly remarried).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">There are certainly real concerns<\/span> on both sides of the debate, and non-Catholics too often relish intramural Catholic squabbles. The word &#8220;anti-christ&#8221; has been hurled at the last three Popes. It&#8217;s yet too early to see what fruits and actions result from the current papacy. One can note one thing, though: however much they differ in style and emphasis, Pope Francis and Pope Emeritus Benedict have an obvious affection and respect for each other. It is better to embrace than to brawl (we&#8217;ll leave the latter to the secular world, which so delights in corybantic times and bloodsport; look at this article in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/magazine\/archive\/2015\/05\/will-pope-francis-break-the-church\/389516\/\">The Atlantic<\/a>. <\/em><\/span>The headline:<em style=\"color: #000000;\"> Will Pope Francis Break the Catholic Church?<\/em>).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>The\u00a0Wall Street<em> Journal<\/em><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>recently labeled him a &#8220;progressive&#8221; and an embodiment of Vatican II whom many liberals internationally may now be looking to for leadership (with the exiting from power of liberals like Barack Obama and French leader Fran\u00e7ois Hollande).\u00a0As the newspaper put it last week, &#8220;When Pope Francis delivers his Christmas message this weekend, he will do so not just as the head of the Catholic Church but as the improbable standard-bearer for many progressives around the world.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"Image1_img\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-Fj0rxUTfUPE\/VEFAdxtlCQI\/AAAAAAAARI8\/iscB9jVXQ78\/s1600\/PapaFrancesco-002%2B-%2BCopy.jpg\" alt=\"pp\" width=\"212\" height=\"268\" \/>&#8220;Improbable&#8221;<\/span> because unlike liberals, Francis and the Church strongly oppose abortion, contraception, loose sexual mores, euthanasia, and homosexual marriage so sacrosanct to liberals.\u00a0&#8220;The Pope\u2019s support for some liberal causes, rooted in traditional Christian concern for the poor and defenseless, has meant joining forces with some partners who reject major Catholic moral teachings,&#8221; noted the\u00a0<em>Journal<\/em>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>Does this then grant a bit of an opportunity? If liberals are really now looking to Rome, might they reconsider some of these issues? Could the atmosphere change in these directions?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>Pope Benedict XVI is often viewed as the opposite: an arch &#8220;conservative&#8221; and traditionalist, and while there is certainly truth to that, he too is a strong supporter of Vatican II, as well as &#8220;liberal&#8221; issues such as the environment (he was known as the &#8220;Green Pope&#8221;). <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.americatho.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/1Burke-Rocamadour.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for cardinal burke robe\" \/>Certainly, the current Pontiff<\/span> has his differences in style with others, and it has grown very vocal. The ambiguity of communication often makes it hard to interpret.
