(13b) <strong>The Lord comes to judge the earth.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>From Associated Press:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/CMSPages\/GetFile.aspx?guid=01bab306-c526-4f39-9beb-a482bb153c78&amp;SiteName=Newsmax&amp;maxsidesize=600\" alt=\"Ida Death Toll Edges Upward as US South Surveys Damage\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-202 Component-p-0-2-193\">Debbie Greco and her family cowered on a stairway landing as Hurricane Ida sent 4 feet (1.2 meters) of muddy water rushing into her home in LaPlace along the west side of Lake Pontchartrain.<\/p>\n<p>Louisiana and Mississippi took stock Tuesday of the disaster inflicted by powerful Hurricane Ida, as receding floodwaters began to reveal the full extent of the damage along the US Gulf Coast and the death toll rose to four.\u00a0New Orleans was still mostly without power nearly two days after Ida slammed into the Louisiana coast as a Category 4 storm, exactly 16 years after devastating Hurricane Katrina &#8212; which killed more than 1,800 people &#8212; made landfall.<\/p>\n<p>Four deaths have been confirmed as crews began fanning out in boats and off-road vehicles to search communities cut off by the giant storm. And so, once again, we invoke Our Lady of Prompt Succor [see bottom], as we note several ironies:<\/p>\n<p>If Hurricane Ida hits when and how they currently project &#8212; as a category-four on Sunday &#8212; it will arrive on the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.<\/p>\n<p>Another glaring irony: Last year, Louisiana was battered by several storms &#8212; including one named, incredibly, &#8220;Delta.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A virus with that nomenclature is now ravaging Louisiana and, yes, specifically New Orleans, where hospitals have literally run out of beds due to covid patients afflicted with the <em>delta<\/em> variant, and now scramble to prepare for what may be the nastiest hurricane in years, perhaps even decades.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Not just intense of wind,<\/span> but laden with rain, over a wide area, is Ida: It could be a story up through Louisiana and into the Tennessee Valley.<\/p>\n<p><em>Update, Associated Press:<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-223 Component-p-0-2-206\">Hurricane Ida rapidly grew in strength early Sunday, becoming a dangerous Category 4 hurricane just hours before hitting the Louisiana coast while emergency officials in the region grappled with opening shelters for displaced evacuees despite the risks of spreading the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-223 Component-p-0-2-206\">As Ida moved through some of the warmest ocean water in the world in the northern Gulf of Mexico, its top winds grew by 45 mph (72 kph) to 150 mph (230 kph) in five hours. On Saturday, a hurricane warning was in effect from Intracoastal City, La., to the mouth of the Pearl River, a region that includes New Orleans.\u00a0Storm surge warnings were issued as well.
