{"id":5481,"date":"2017-02-07T23:11:24","date_gmt":"2017-02-07T23:11:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/?p=5481"},"modified":"2017-02-08T14:24:36","modified_gmt":"2017-02-08T14:24:36","slug":"an-unpleasant-question","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/an-unpleasant-question\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Watch: An Unpleasant Question"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3127\" src=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/logoinside.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"45\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/736x\/f2\/99\/5b\/f2995bacd0ee1cb7d462cee738dd9c01.jpg\" alt=\"Jesus Heals the Sick\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It&#8217;s not a pleasant topic, but it seems like an increasingly urgent question &#8212; or question<em>s<\/em> (plural):<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Is there a silent and expanding crisis to do with brain cancer?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Have you heard of anyone who has contracted this?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">If you&#8217;ve answered yes: isn&#8217;t it supposed to be <em>&#8220;rare&#8221;<\/em>?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">At one time,<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">when I was young, it was something you just didn&#8217;t encounter.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Now, it has become personal.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Two weeks ago, I lost a close, younger brother to the deadliest &#8212; and most common &#8212; kind of brain malignancy, glioblastoma multiforme.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>He suffered heroically, for three years, under a &#8220;death sentence,&#8221; and thank God, went out with dignity (having the presence of mind to request a priest).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">But it was tragic nonetheless. <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">There are apparently many such current tragedies.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">When I first started reading<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">about glioblastoma, the statistics had it that just two to four people per 100,000 (one out of every twenty-five to thirty-five thousand) were diagnosed with it each year.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">These statistics are highly suspect, as are certain other current medical facts. It takes a while, it seems &#8212; sometimes quite a while &#8212; for medical data to fully characterize unfolding trends.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Take the case<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">of my brother: Long before he ever suffered a seizure (which was the way they learned about the awful, insidious tumor), he had mentioned a lawyer he knew who was dying of it.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">That&#8217;s two people right there, in a city of fifty thousand: the lawyer my brother knew and soon after my brother himself.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTyocz0o1tV7JeLB2g_yvGTAmLpGf91wrgzZoQhJooKAqGGDNSg\" alt=\"Image result for jesus healing\" \/>At his funeral, an old friend who had been a city councilman told me he had <em>two<\/em> cousins who currently have the same thing.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><em>Another<\/em> attendee at the funeral &#8212; a former school teacher &#8212; said (including my brother) she knew of five people with it.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">A doctor at my brother&#8217;s wake said she&#8217;d had two cases in just one month (last year).<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Rare?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Or a hidden epidemic?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>As it turns out, it&#8217;s a cancer that seems to be surging, especially among the young.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>Not a good sign.\u00a0Certainly a prayer need. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>&#8220;A new report published in the journal <i>Neuro-Oncology<\/i> and funded by the American Brain Tumor Association finds that malignant brain tumors are the most common cause of cancer-related deaths in adolescents and young adults aged 15-39 and the most common cancer occurring among 15-19 year-olds,&#8221; notes one researcher.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">If it is a growing illness,\u00a0<em>what&#8217;s causing it?<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Like any cancer,<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">science has no definitive way of knowing.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">There are chemicals: The first toxic compound linked to this specific malignancy &#8212; vinyl chloride (used to make plastics) &#8212; was manufactured in Niagara Falls (the city in question here).\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The cancer also has been associated with carbon tetrachloride. O<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">ur surroundings and bodies are so pervaded with synthetics it could be any one of thousands of chemicals, not to mention the unknown effects when they combine (called &#8220;synergism&#8221;).<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">So there&#8217;s that.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">There are also those who say brain cancer is plaguing baby boomers due to contamination (between 1955 and 1962) of the polio vaccination with what they call simian-40, a monkey virus. The parents of one dead youngster had his tissue analyzed and the virus, known for a fact to cause brain cancer, was isolated in the boy&#8217;s tumor. (Monkeys from Africa were used to culture the ingredients.)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Anything that affects DNA &#8212; genetic compositions &#8212; can cause cancer, and both chemicals and viruses can do this.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">So can radiation &#8212; of whatever kind. It doesn&#8217;t have to be a nuclear reaction. Radiation in the way of electromagnetism now dominates our lives. It can come from electrical wires, digital clocks, TV screens, radar, wi-fi (keep those modems out of the bedroom, and use a timer to shut them off at night), cordless phones, &#8220;smart&#8221; devices, electric blankets, and so forth. Survey your surroundings.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But of the nearly countless kinds, nothing is more suspect than<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">cell phones<\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">These are basically little microwaves pressed against our skulls (and brains).<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">In Europe,<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">scientists have outright\u00a0made the link. But in the U.S. (home to cell-phone conglomerates), such studies are pooh-poohed. <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;Peer-reviewed research on brain tumor risk and wireless phone use strongly suggests that we should exercise precaution and keep cell phones and cordless phones away from our heads,&#8221; says a scientist named Dr. Joel M. Moskowitz at the School of Public Health at Berkeley. &#8220;Moreover, the research calls into question the adequacy of national standards and international guidelines that limit our exposure to radiation from wireless phones.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Do yourself a favor and use corded (not Bluetooth) earbuds.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">There are other suspects.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Medical and dental x-rays are a known risk for brain cancer.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">They&#8217;ll tell you that such radiation is at &#8220;safe&#8221; levels, but they have always said this and no one has ever established how radiation or a carcinogen, at however minute a level, could be safe (if all it takes is one to damage cellular DNA and trigger a chain reaction).<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Limit exposure. Don&#8217;t be paranoid (there are times we may\u00a0<em>need<\/em> cat-scans and x-rays), but limit anything that irradiates you.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">And if it all seems hopeless (in this chemical-radiation-filled &#8220;soup&#8221;), it isn&#8217;t.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">There are defenses.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Pray. The Holy Spirit can protect your DNA. He knows every cell and every atom in it. He knows every molecule. And He can correct flaws before they proliferate.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">And eat right. Many vegetables and fruits protect and repair DNA. Broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, kale, dandelion, carrots, squash, apricots, oranges, flaxseed, and avocados come immediately to mind. Try to get organic versions of all these, and keep your system flushed with good water. Exercise. Cancer hates oxygen.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">None of us is doomed, despite the daunting challenges.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Far from it.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">God has created natural remedies for\u00a0<em>everything<\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">And with what He has made, there are no side effects. I&#8217;m not saying we can always prevent it. There is also God&#8217;s Will and the fact of suffering in all our lives. There can be genetic factors. The body simply ages.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">But some survive cancer &#8212; at least, other kinds &#8212; through natural means or prevent it to begin with. <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Shield yourself with His Spirit. Pray for your immune system. This is crucial. The immune system, functioning optimally, can kill cancer cells and does each day in your body. Fasting bolsters it and purges and balances the body (make Lent a time during which sacrifice leads to health).<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">What\u00a0we need to do is pray about what our bodies and immune systems need (each body is different) and seek first and foremost the Divine Physician.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">&#8212; Michael H. Brown<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">[resources:<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/store.spiritdaily.com\/SearchResults.asp?Search=God+of+healing&amp;Submit=GO\">The God of Healing<\/a><\/span>]<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[From<span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\"> <a style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.saferemr.com\/2015\/05\/brain-tumor-rates-are-rising-in-us-role.html\">a website<\/a> <\/span>dedicated to this disease:\u00a0The incidence of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), a highly cancerous glioma,\u00a0increased\u00a0in the frontal and temporal lobes, and in the cerebellum among\u00a0adults of all ages in the U.S:<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A study by<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/meningiomaHardell\" target=\"_blank\">Carlberg and Hardell (2015)<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>adds to the growing body of evidence that heavy use of wireless phones (i.e., cell phones and cordless phones) is associated with increased risk of meningioma in Sweden. Heavy cordless phone users\u00a0(defined as more than 1,436 hours of lifetime use)\u00a0had a 1.7-fold greater risk of meningioma (OR = 1.7; 95% CI = 1.3-2.2).\u00a0The heaviest cordless phone users (defined as more than 3,358 hours of lifetime use) had a two-fold greater risk of meningioma\u00a0(OR = 2.0; 95% CI = 1.4 &#8211; 2.8).\u00a0The heaviest cell phone users had a 1.5-fold greater risk of meningioma (OR = 1.5, 95% CI = 0.99 &#8211; 2.1).<\/p>\n<p>Two earlier case-control studies conducted in other nations have found significant evidence of increased risk for meningioma among heavy cell phone users.]<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>(1) In France,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/24816517?dopt=Abstract\" target=\"_blank\">Coureau et al. (2014)<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>found a two and a half-fold greater risk of\u00a0meningioma for heavy cell phone users (defined as 896 or more hours of lifetime use) (OR = 2.57; 95% CI = 1.02 to 6.44).<\/p>\n<p>(2) In\u00a0Australia, Canada, France, Israel and New Zealand,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/oem.bmj.com\/content\/68\/9\/631.full.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Cardis et al.
