{"id":62782,"date":"2023-07-12T08:10:17","date_gmt":"2023-07-12T12:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/?p=62782"},"modified":"2023-07-12T08:10:42","modified_gmt":"2023-07-12T12:10:42","slug":"a-poem-by-archbishop-sheen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/a-poem-by-archbishop-sheen\/","title":{"rendered":"A Poem By Archbishop Sheen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u201cWho\u2019s Minding the Store?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I went to church the other day to free my soul from sin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I was looking for the preacher, but the preacher wasn\u2019t in.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Sexton there assured me that there\u2019d be no use waiting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cThe preacher\u2019s gone away,\u201d he said, \u201cto do some demonstrating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u201cWhat I want to know,\u201d I said, \u201cand I will make myself quite clear:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>While they\u2019re all demonstrating, who\u2019s running things down here?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Who\u2019s taking care of sinners, who\u2019s leading us in prayer?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Who\u2019s feeding all the lost sheep that wander by right here?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Who\u2019s baptising babies, and another thing,\u201d I said,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cWho\u2019s looking out for the sick folk, and blessing all the dead?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Sexton was a wise old man, with a twinkle in his eye.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">He looked at me and scratched his head, and this was his reply:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cSon, what I\u2019m going to say to you might strike you kind of odd,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But since no one\u2019s here to help you, put your question up to God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>So I asked Him all those things last night, when I bent my knee in prayer:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cO Lord,\u201d I prayed, \u201cplease tell me, who\u2019s running things down here?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Lord sent down an Angel, it was enough to make me sob,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>When the Angel said: \u201cThe Devil! And he\u2019s doing a darn good job!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>by Archbishop Fulton J.
