There’s the photo of a small funnel cloud over the U.S. Capitol.<\/p>\n

Observant visitors to the area around the U.S. Capitol building on Tuesday afternoon were treated to a unusual sight: the unmistakable shape of a funnel cloud extending diagonally from the sky and seemingly almost reaching the tip of the Capitol dome itself.<\/p>\n

The funnel cloud never touched down on the ground and therefore can\u2019t be classified as a tornado. There was no damage and no reports of any other funnel clouds in the area Tuesday. But a photo of the thin, wispy twister curving over the Capitol drew more than 1 million views on Twitter.<\/p>\n

There’s the heat spike in the Northeast:<\/p>\n

A\u200b heat wave that has smashed records in the Southwest United States is spreading into parts of the Midwest and Northeast this week.<\/p>\n

T\u200bhis persistent excessive heat has been camped over the nation’s southern tier from the Desert Southwest to Florida much of this month. It’s been the hottest start to July on record in\u00a0Phoenix, Baton Rouge and Miami<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are the incredible ocean temperatures reaching above a hundred<\/em> degrees off Florida (about hot-tub levels):<\/p>\n

On Monday, as much of the country stewed in bubbling heat, a boiling milestone was hit \u2014 a buoy in Florida registered a jaw-dropping 101.1 degrees Fahrenheit water temperature.<\/p>\n

This was on the heels of the\u00a0same buoy\u00a0<\/a>in Manatee Bay\u00a0<\/a>registering 100.2 degrees on Sunday<\/a>. For perspective, the average hot tub temperature is 100-102 degrees F.\u00a0While the readings would’ve been considered a possible outlier or sensor error, surrounding buoys recorded similarly high temperatures,\u00a0with 99.3<\/a>\u00a0<\/a>F at Murray Key and 98.4<\/a>\u00a0<\/a>F at Johnson Key<\/a>.<\/p>\n
