{"id":78581,"date":"2025-11-24T07:43:22","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T12:43:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/?p=78581"},"modified":"2025-12-27T20:07:27","modified_gmt":"2025-12-28T01:07:27","slug":"78581-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/78581-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ukrainian Torture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u0417\u0430\u0440\u0432\u0430\u043d\u0438\u0446\u044f.avi\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IZfAt7700pU\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Last week, the U.S. pressured Ukraine to cede land to invading Russia while demanding nothing from Russia except for an end to an invasion that has cost 220,000 Russian servicemen and at least 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers their lives (not to mention the injured, captured, and widespread devastation to Ukrainian cities and infrastructure).<\/p>\n<p>The figures are higher than the the sixty thousand killed in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201cThere is no justification<\/span> for forcing thousands of civilians to live in darkness and cold. We are deeply affected by the news of attacks on electrical systems in civilian structures, which have made life even more difficult for many people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With these words, Vatican Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin emphasized the suffering of the war-struck Ukrainian people during his homily at a Mass on Thursday, November 20, at the Church of Sant\u2019Andrea della Valle in Rome.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vaticannews.va\/content\/dam\/vaticannews\/agenzie\/images\/srv\/2025\/11\/20\/2025-11-20-santa-messa-per-la-pace-in-ucraina\/1763664136986.JPG\/_jcr_content\/renditions\/cq5dam.thumbnail.cropped.750.422.jpeg\" alt=\"Cardinal Pietro Parolin during a Mass remembering the victims of the Holodomor\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The liturgy was celebrated to remember the victims of the 1932-33 Holodomor, a famine perpetrated by the Soviet regime, after the Ukrainian population had protested against the collective property system, which caused millions\u2014not thousands, but millions\u2014of deaths.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/download-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-78582\" src=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/download-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"276\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/download-1.jpg 276w, https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/download-1-255x168.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 276px) 100vw, 276px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Translation: the fruit of Communism,<\/span> the fruit of godlessness, was a famine that cost at least five times as many lives as the Irish Famine. And Ukraine, a deeply devout Catholic-Orthodox country (with major apparitions of Mary), remains persecuted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The good will be martyred,\u00a0the Holy Father will have much to suffer; various nations will be annihilated,<\/em>\u201d it had been said at Fatima, and if what happened during the 1920s, if the execution of landowners and freethinkers and priests wasn\u2019t enough (some priests were nailed to walls), there was the horror caused when Stalin, seeking to quash Ukrainian nationalism and terrorize private farmers, hauled all that republic\u2019s wheat to Russia and created a severe, almost incomprehensible famine.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">In 1933 alone at least 4.6 million<\/span> and perhaps as many as ten million Ukrainians perished. It was the dark horseman of the Apocalypse. \u201cPractically every village has a mass grave from the artificial famine of 1933,\u201d Dr. James Mace, director of the Commission on the Ukraine Famine, told me. \u201cThere was tremendous demographic damage\u2014epic figures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cde.state.co.us\/sites\/default\/files\/pics\/cosocialstudies\/UkrainianGenocide-Theme-Survival-v2.jpg\" alt=\"Holodomor Through the Eyes of Ukrainian Artists | CDE\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to another scholar, Lubomyr Hajda of Harvard, the number of dead from this period alone was comparable to the number killed during the Nazi Holocaust. Said Hajda: \u201cIn terms of absolute data the Ukrainian numbers are probably higher than any other mass atrocity we\u2019re familiar with. It\u2019s not proportionately as high as what happened to the Jews \u2014 whose entire European population was nearly exterminated \u2014 and we don\u2019t have a good reckoning from China, but the Ukrainian experience has certainly been one of the most horrific of this century.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How many who disseminate opinions on the current war are conversant with these historic details?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-54532\" src=\"https:\/\/spiritdailyblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/images.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 311px) 100vw, 311px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spiritdailyblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/images.jpg 311w, https:\/\/spiritdailyblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/images-255x133.jpg 255w\" alt=\"\" width=\"311\" height=\"162\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Their crops stolen by the Muscovites<\/span> and their herds slaughtered for Russian consumption, Ukrainians were forced to eat nettles, tree bark, leaves, milkweed, worms, rodents, and crows. Entire villages were devoid of life \u2014 the cats and dogs devoured when the crows and rats were gone, followed by numerous incidents of cannibalism. In cities where children were abandoned by parents who couldn\u2019t provide so much as a morsel of black bread, trucks came each night and picked up corpses that littered every major thoroughfare. There was a black market in human meat.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54530\" src=\"https:\/\/spiritdailyblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/download.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"398\" height=\"306\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe arrived at a nameless village,\u201d recalled one survivor. \u201cThere was not a soul to be seen. Our purpose was to weed beets. It was spring and the beets were still growing. I asked the leader why there was such a stench coming from a neighboring village. The name of the village was Katerynivka. There were some peasants gathering wild garlic to make dinner, he answered. Later on, I grew thirsty and they wouldn\u2019t give us water, so I went toward the village without permission. There I saw a truly horrible picture. (AP Photo\/Andrew Kravchenko)<\/span><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Added another witness,<\/span> \u201cPeople died of hunger in their houses, the fields, in the yards, streets, railroad stations, on the roofs of train cars.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/osce.usmission.gov\/on-the-91st-anniversary-of-the-holodomor-genocide-of-1932-and-1933-in-ukraine-committed-by-the-totalitarian-stalins-regime\/\">Bodies were collected<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>everywhere and taken to a large hole where they were covered with lime. One spring day I heard the cries of a child. Going up to the yard where the cries were coming from, I saw a young mother sitting on a bank of earth against the house. There was an infant on her breast which was frantically trying to suck its mother\u2019s breasts, which were as dry as empty bags. It seemed at first that she was asleep, but when I touched her shoulder, she fell like a blade of grass. She was dead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/war.ukraine.ua\/articles\/holodomor-the-artificial-famine-that-killed-millions-of-ukrainians\/\">So enfamished was the populace<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>that mothers butchered their deceased children and children consumed their parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe the famine deaths to have been about seven million\u2014five million in the Ukraine, one million in the Kuban and North Caucasus, and one million in the Don and Lower Volga,\u201d said Ukrainian scholar Robert Conquest.<\/p>\n<p>Please let those with views assimilate these details; please pray for both countries.<\/p>\n<p><em>[resources: Witness, by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bookstore.spiritdaily.com\/products\/br-witness-josyp-terelya-by-michael-h-brown?_pos=1&amp;_sid=960535aaa&amp;_ss=r\">Josyp Terelya with Michael H.
