{"id":78986,"date":"2025-12-17T00:36:51","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T05:36:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/?p=78986"},"modified":"2026-01-19T22:43:57","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T03:43:57","slug":"murder-staring-us-in-the-face","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/murder-staring-us-in-the-face\/","title":{"rendered":"Murder Staring Us In The Face"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We were struck the other day viewing the video of a woman named Keri Mazzuka, 52, in Albany, New York, who was arrested for the 1997 killing of her infant son twenty-seven years after the baby&#8217;s corpse was found.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">New DNA techniques led to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/news\/article\/altamont-mother-charged-1997-death-newborn-baby-19768438.php\">the arrest<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Pray for her.<\/span> That&#8217;s one message. Can you imagine the guilt?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The infant had been found swaddled in a blue pillowcase in a flower bed near a statue of Moses in Washington Park in Albany.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">She was an unwed woman in her twenties at the time, and killed the child after giving birth in a bathtub filled with water and cutting the umbilical cord. She admitted hearing the child and feeling his breath before taking the boy (whom police named &#8220;Moses&#8221;) to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wamc.org\/news\/2024-09-16\/albany-police-make-arrest-in-baby-moses-cold-case\">the park<\/a><\/span> and dumping him there on the linen she then set afire.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.hdnux.com\/photos\/01\/43\/05\/00\/25972736\/3\/rawImage.jpg\" alt=\"Mother charged in 1997 death of 'Baby Moses' in Albany\" \/><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Yes, heartless.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A medical examiner determined that the baby, who weighed nine pounds and three ounces, had been born alive and healthy, and was less than twelve hours old when it died.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/npr.brightspotcdn.com\/dims4\/default\/5ff8a94\/2147483647\/strip\/true\/crop\/3024x4032+0+0\/resize\/880x1173!\/quality\/90\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fnpr-brightspot.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fc6%2Fe8%2F1b4b5d5540c4a9ff7cbf2bd22265%2Fmosesstatue.jpg\" alt=\"The Moses statue in Albany's Washington Park\" \/><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A horror, to be sure. Keri now has two other, grown children but faces a twenty-five year sentence on the charge of second-degree murder and concealment of a crime.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">There are those<\/span> who might wonder why it wasn&#8217;t first-degree murder. The answer might be because New York is a pretty liberal state. Maybe it was a matter of mercy, which one can understand: she was a mixed-up young woman who turned desperate (not to excuse it whatsoever).<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">But this not the larger issue.<em> [scroll for more:]<\/em><\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><!-- spiritdaily.org --><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6350947343102800\" data-ad-slot=\"9237292177\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><script>(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The larger question: If a woman can do a manslaughter sentence for killing a newly born baby, what about the doctors and nurses and patients who have late-term abortions or the cases\u2014much more to the point\u2014of babies who survive such gruesome abortions but have been left on cold stainless-steel hospital carts to die?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">What, pray tell, is the difference?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Is the answer simply<\/span> that we currently live in a schizophrenic culture?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported at <em>least<\/em> 143 babies were born alive after abortion attempts between 2003 and 2014, based on data from states that provided the information and the actual number is admittedly far higher.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Internationally, a study of second-trimester abortions in Quebec, Canada, between 1989 and 2021 found that <em>11.2 percent<\/em> led to a live birth, <em>though this risk was significantly reduced by the use of feticidal injection.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Canada reported 766 babies born alive during an abortion between 2013 and 2018.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">It is illegal in all fifty U.S. states<\/span> to intentionally kill an infant who is born alive, regardless of the circumstances of their birth.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">But is it enforced, and if so, how so?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Tony Perkins, president of the anti-abortion rights Family Research Council, wrote, \u201cIn twelve states, children born alive after <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/health-44357373\">a failed abortion<\/a><\/span> have no legal protection, and in three more states children born alive after an abortion had legal rights that governors\u2013like Tim Walz\u2013repealed.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">One nurse, Jill Stanek of Christ Hospital, Oak Lawn, Illinois, personally held a baby she described as struggling to breathe for over forty-five minutes before expiring.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/download.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-78989\" src=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/download.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/download.jpg 300w, https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/download-255x143.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">And get back to late-term abortions:<\/span> this is barbaric and equally a homicide.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The word &#8220;evil&#8221; more aptly describes such medical &#8220;procedures.&#8221; Remarkable it is that the administering medical personnel can sleep at night.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Excuse the harshness, but any sleep they get should be in a cell next to Mazzuca.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/church.mt\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2019\/10\/baby.jpg\" alt=\"BABY SURVIVES ABORTION, LEFT TO DIE IN ITALY \u2013 Archdiocese of Malta\" \/><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">As for the child, a detective who waged a years-long crusade to find the killer noted that the morning of the discovery, the sun was shining and &#8220;there was no escaping the beauty of the flowers that were in bloom.
