{"id":79826,"date":"2026-01-18T07:23:51","date_gmt":"2026-01-18T12:23:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/?p=79826"},"modified":"2026-02-25T23:01:53","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T04:01:53","slug":"79826-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/79826-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Archives: No Matter What Troubles You, Overcome It By Approaching It With Joy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">What would you say if someone were to tell you that no matter what, you are to strive for joy (unless you are in a state of sin)?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">It&#8217;s quite a remark. We live in a world of sorrow, tragedy, wars and rumors, some would reply &#8212; especially as we approach (in just over a month!) the days of Lent. There is certainly a lot of tragedy. Who can deny the crimes and selfishness and conflict? Who can deny illness? <i>Who can deny that there is mortality in this &#8220;valley of tears&#8221;?<\/i><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">And yet with eyes to Heaven<\/span>\u00a0(and living in the guidance of Christ), even that can be approached with happiness &#8212; or at least a sweet consolation.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Joy is our ticket through life. It&#8217;s what we should strive for. Purity of the interior (what you keep as your own thoughts) is a key. It&#8217;s difficult and sometimes just about impossible, but if we can approach every aggravation with a smile, if we find happiness in each struggle, if we transcend gloominess, we place shields around us. <i>Joy is the halo of brightness that plows through the darkness of life.<\/i><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">How can we possibly be happy through the trials on earth?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Upon clinical &#8220;death,&#8221; said a person who had a near-death experience, one of the first lessons is that <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;there is a reason for everything that happens, no matter how awful it appeared in the physical realm.&#8221;<\/span> It is the harmony with God&#8217;s laws that grants purpose and joy.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">In Heaven, nothing on earth seems like such a big deal. Great suffering is little in terms of eternity. When we die, we&#8217;ll say, &#8220;Of course!&#8221; or &#8220;I should have known!&#8221; as we review those things that were learning experiences but once seemed catastrophic.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">&#8220;It is always springtime in the heart that loves God,&#8221; the Cure of Ars declared. And he spoke from experience. We get this from the marvelous book, <i><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A Bedside Book of Saints.<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;The soul of one<\/span> who serves God,&#8221; said St. John of the Cross, &#8220;always swims in joy, always keeps holiday, and is always in a mood for singing&#8221;!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Joy chases away evil. Look at how radiant John Paul II was right to the end!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">&#8220;Laugh and grow strong,&#8221; was a saying from St. Ignatius.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">St. Teresa prayed to be delivered from &#8220;sour-faced saints.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Joy heals.<\/span> Joy sweeps away pessimism. Joy stops you from thinking the worst. Joy transcends the little trials we each encounter each week and sometimes every hour.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Joy calls your soul to heal your body, over which it rules. Even death should not daunt us. &#8220;The perfect love of God,&#8221; said St. John of the Cross, &#8220;makes death welcome and most sweet to the soul.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Perfect love casts out fear<\/span> and it is fear that so often robs us of joy! (More on that tomorrow.) Everything that happens does so for a purpose, and God is in charge; truly, He is<i>\u00a0everywhere.<\/i>\u00a0He knows your smallest discomfort.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">During tribulation, the saints were happier yet because tribulation brings us closer to God. There is joy in everything unless you let the devil guide you!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Fighting evil?\u00a0 &#8220;They wage war on the devil as though they were amusing themselves,&#8221; said Chrysostom of monks in his time.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;They have no sadness.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">What were some names of the early monasteries? &#8220;The Bright Place.&#8221; &#8220;The Delights.&#8221; &#8220;The Gate of Heaven.&#8221; &#8220;The Happy Meadow.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Can you smile in difficulty? Can you be happy when everything is going &#8220;wrong&#8221;? Can you be glad even when your schedule has been upset?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Be generous. Be full of love. Joy is the measure of our generosity. It belongs to maturity.
