Our Lord requested the feast <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">of Divine Mercy be celebrated on the Second Sunday of Easter.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Jesus told St. Faustina: \u201cOn that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open&#8230;The soul <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">that will go to Confession, and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">sins and punishment. On that day, all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">opened. (Diary, 699). Jesus himself asked her to devote the eighth day of the Divine Mercy <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Novena to praying for the release of the souls in purgatory. (Diary, 1226).<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">St. Faustina was known to be a saint of mercy for the souls in purgatory. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">One night she was visited by the soul of a fellow religious who had recently passed away. In<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">her diary she described the poor soul as being \u201cin a terrible condition \u2026 her face painfully <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">distorted.\u201d She redoubled her prayers for the sister\u2019s soul.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Sometime later, the soul of the sister again visited St. Faustina during the night. Her face was <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">now \u201cradiant, her eyes beaming with joy.\u201d She said that Faustina had a true love for her <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">neighbor and that many other souls had profited from her prayers.\u201d Before the soul left, she <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">urged St. Faustina \u201cnot to cease praying for the souls in purgatory\u201d (Diary, 58).<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Remember, this includes Indulgences! Jesus said: \u201cDraw all the indulgences from the treasury <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">of My Church and offer them on their behalf.\u201d Offer your Indulgence for the holy souls or a <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">specific soul on Divine Mercy Sunday. You will not lose the grace of the indulgence! Our Lord <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">told St. Gertrude who offered all her merits for the dead: \u201cWhat can I do more for one who <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">has thus deprived herself of all things through charity than to cover her immediately with <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">charity?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">When St. Faustina was visited by another fellow sister in purgatory, the soul bid her to have <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">one Mass offered for her and three ejaculatory prayers (Eternal Rest prayer) because Mass is <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">the greatest means to help such souls reach God. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Jesus gave St. Faustina an intense yearning for him in Holy Communion to help her<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">understand \u201cwhat the longing of the souls in purgatory\u201d is like. On July 10, 1937, St. Faustina <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">attended Holy Mass experienced \u201csuch intense hunger for God\u201d that she seemed to be dying <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">of the desire to be united with Jesus.\u201d She explained that only the night before, she had been <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">fasting and offering all her spiritual exercises for one of the deceased sisters (Diary, 1185-86).\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In the vision of purgatory, St. Faustina asks the holy souls what their \u201cgreatest suffering\u201d is. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In one voice, they answer that it is their \u201clonging for God\u201d (Diary, 20).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">During a family gathering, St. Stanislaus Papczynski, the founder of the Marians of the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Immaculate Conception, saw the suffering souls in purgatory, got up from the table and in his<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">haste to go to the chapel to pray for them, walked right through the table. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cPray brethren, for the souls in purgatory, for they suffer unbearably,\u201d he told his confreres<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">later. Then he locked himself in his cell for three days and prayed for those souls yet more. It <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">is believed that many of the fallen soldiers appeared to him for help. People were dying by <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">the thousands and so often going unprepared before God &#8212; very much like our times. Father <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Stanislaus decided that helping the souls of the dead especially those who perished during a <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">war or pestilence, should be the key goal of his congregation. To this day, the second special <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">calling for the Marian Fathers is to \u201coffer our lives for the holy souls in purgatory, especially <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">the victims of war and disease.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Let us follow their ways! Offer Gregorian Masses for your deceased loved one. Offer a <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">novena of Masses (nine days). A Triduum of Masses, (3 days) or individual Masses. Contact<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">the Pious Union of St. Joseph, www.pusj.org. These Mass stipends support our Catholic <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Missionary priests who serve in the most remote and poorest countries around the world.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Remember to offer Masses for yourself while you are alive. A living person, is still capable of <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">growing in sanctifying grace. The Mass heals the living and the dead.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Put Gregorian Masses in your Will. With so many families only arranging a prayer service for <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">their deceased loved ones, omitting a funeral Mass, you need to be sure Masses will be <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">offered for your soul!<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">I noted in my years of research that many souls appear first to those closest to them for help. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">As in the case of St. Faustina, the nuns she lived with and with St. Padre Pio the monks he <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">lived with. In my own experience deceased relatives and family members appeared in <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">dreams to myself and siblings seeking help and confirming they are okay but need prayers, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">especially the Mass.
