A bit of beach talk.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We spoke to a fellow in Maryland the other day who along with dinner guests insists he saw Chessie and even filmed it &#8212; a professional, credible-sounding fellow. <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">But&#8230;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Strange claims<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">(and dubious ones) &#8212; from ancient Indian times to our present day.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net\/reptiles\/images\/4\/4f\/Cryptoclidus_profile.png\/revision\/latest\/scale-to-width-down\/250?cb=20130621201708\" alt=\"Cryptoclidus profile\" \/>While &#8220;cryptozoologists,&#8221; as they call themselves, like to believe in undiscovered specimens &#8212; relict aquatic dinosaurs, perhaps a plesiosaur &#8212; the question is twofold:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Why do so many of these sightings occur where Native Americans conducted pagan rituals?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">And also:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Why do so many of them have\u00a0<em>horns<\/em>, such that there is even an entry dedicated to this precise topic &#8212; &#8220;Horned Serpents&#8221; &#8212; in a cryptozoological encyclopedia?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/9\/93\/Snakerock.jpg\/250px-Snakerock.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for horned serpent\" width=\"172\" height=\"165\" \/><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">&#8220;Centuries-old legends from native sources conjure up encounters with giant &#8216;reptiles&#8217; with great horns,&#8221; says <em>Cryptozoology A to Z<\/em>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A scholarly journal of folklore has even tackled the subject!<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">There is the Great Horned Reptile \u00a0of the Ohio River, there is the Horned Snake there also, there is a deep-hole water Horned Snake in Tennessee, there is &#8220;Mosqueto,&#8221; a great horned serpent that rose from the depth of Lake Ontario (700 B.C.). There is a lake near Hays Springs, Nebraska, and a brute here also. Dreadful roars, Horrid smell.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/736x\/7b\/85\/dc\/7b85dc7969bc9d27bf6e9bcb7dff446b.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for horned serpent\" \/><em>Sulfur?<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;From Alaska to New Mexico<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">the belief in a horned serpent-shaped water beast of enormous dimensions is widespread,&#8221; wrote Claude Gagnon and Michel Meurger in\u00a0<em>Lake Monster Traditions<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Duck-billed dinosaurs &#8212; perhaps finding their way from ocean to lake via undiscovered tunnels (a favorite theory at Loch Ness)?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">One of history&#8217;s most famous occultists owned a home there, at Loch Ness, and was said to raise the &#8220;monster.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The same reports come from places in Africa &#8212; where magic is also practiced.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>There is a horned serpent in the Harry Potter series.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Why horns?<\/span> Why often less like a plesiosaur than a dragon (see <em>Revelation)<\/em>?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>There is the monster, in North Dakota, of Devil&#8217;s Lake. &#8220;Suddenly the earth trembled as the lake began to churn and boil. Out of the water rose a huge monster with short legs and saucer-like eyes that flashed like copper fire,&#8221; is one description of what Indian legend told.
