As the artist (real name Alejandro Rose-Garcia) tells it, amid a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasmonthly.com\/news-politics\/psychedelic-therapy-texas\/\">psychedelic experience<\/a>\u00a0in 2009 he met a friend of a friend who decided that he had to give this instrument to the up-and-comer. The catch: It was supposedly haunted by its original owner, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasmonthly.com\/being-texan\/felix-longoria-affair\/\">World War II<\/a>\u00a0veteran named Jay Manley. Rose-Garcia later tried playing it, but it wouldn\u2019t tune. He resolved to let it \u201cdo whatever it wanted to do\u201d and found that<br \/>\nhis hands \u201cstarted to fly around the neck.\u201d That phenomenon led him to write \u201cRoll the Bones,\u201d the title track of his 2011 debut record.
