Some believe it&#8217;s <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/archives-is-this-her-birthday\/\">August 5<\/a><\/span>. Nor does Scripture name her parents, Joachim and Anne, whose names come from ancient Christian tradition. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><em>Yet from the earliest centuries,<\/em> Christians preserved a deep memory of Mary&#8217;s origins, and by the early Church era a feast honoring her Nativity had taken root in the East before spreading to Rome and throughout the Western Church.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">So, why September 8?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The date falls exactly nine months<\/span> after December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception\u2014the celebration not of Christ&#8217;s conception, as is sometimes mistakenly thought, but of Mary&#8217;s conception in the womb of Saint Anne, preserved by a singular grace of God from original sin.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Thus the Church&#8217;s calendar itself tells a story. Nine months later: her birth.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Interesting also is how September 8 is one of only three birthdays celebrated liturgically by the Catholic Church: the Nativity of Jesus on December 25, the birth of Saint John the Baptist on June 24, and the Nativity of Mary.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">That alone tells us something about her place in salvation history.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Marygoldblack.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-86245\" src=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Marygoldblack.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Marygoldblack.jpg 330w, https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Marygoldblack-255x366.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 330px) 100vw, 330px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Mary&#8217;s birth was not accompanied,<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> of course,<\/span><\/span> by armies, palaces, trumpets, or worldly acclaim. It was almost certainly hidden, humble, unnoticed by the powers of the age. It could hardly be quieter! A tragedy it is, how since the division of Martin Luther, she has been obscure for a huge number of Christians.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Yet from that seemingly ordinary birth would come the young woman who would say, &#8220;Let it be done to me according to your word,&#8221; and through that assent the Eternal Word would take Flesh.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The ancient Church saw Mary&#8217;s birth as the first glimmer of dawn before sunrise.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Christ was the Sun.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Mary was the morning star announcing His approach.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/maryab5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-86242\" src=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/maryab5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"818\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/maryab5.jpg 818w, https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/maryab5-768x315.jpg 768w, https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/maryab5-255x105.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 818px) 100vw, 818px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><em>For this reason<\/em> the feast has traditionally carried a spirit of joy and comfort.\u00a0<em>Mary is comforting. <\/em>Imagine what she experienced and saw: right onto Golgotha, the entire life of Our Savior.\u00a0The long preparation for the Messiah was moving toward fulfillment. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The woman foretold in <em>Genesis<\/em>, the Virgin spoken of by <em>Isaiah<\/em>, the Mother who would stand beneath the Cross and later with the Apostles at Pentecost had entered the world, the holy woman whose first appearance in apparition occurred in the first century (to James at Zaragoza, Spain) and whose apparitions across Europe and then around the world led to the construction of shrines, chapels, churches, and cathedrals. She was truly Mother of the Church in ways most do not know.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/0.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-86251\" src=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"683\" height=\"911\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/0.jpg 683w, https:\/\/spiritdaily.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/0-255x340.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">There is also something tender about celebrating Mary&#8217;s birthday.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Catholics so often approach her with petitions, Rosaries, novenas, tears, and pleas for intercession. September 8 offers an augmentation of such prayers and something simpler: an opportunity simply to honor her, as children honor the birthday of a beloved mother.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">And perhaps to say:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Happy birthday, Blessed Mother.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Thank you for saying yes.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Thank you for giving us Jesus.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\"><em>[resources:<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/bookstore.spiritdaily.com\/search?q=The+last+secret\"> The Last Secret<\/a>]<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It should be a special day not just for Catholics but for Christians of all faiths.
