However, there is a hidden part of her story\u2014supernatural experiences she had never shared publicly that now reveal another side of her testimony. In this story, we explore the surprising events that happened to Gloria Polo beyond the well-known narrative. Some of these experiences are far more astonishing than the first ones that made her testimony famous.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"2\">Gloria Polo is a Colombian dentist who gained worldwide recognition for an extraordinary near-death experience. On May 5th, 1995, at the age of 36, she was struck by lightning in Bogot\u00e1. The strike killed her nephew and left her with severe injuries that required intensive care. During this period, she claims to have left her body and entered another reality. She recounted reaching the gates of paradise, passing through regions she identified as purgatory and hell, seeing Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and deceased relatives, and beholding the book of life. During her particular judgment, she says she saw her sins along with the consequences each one had produced in the lives of others. Finally, she affirms that Jesus permitted her to return and charged her with sharing her experience to call others to conversion.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\">Her testimony became one of the most famous near-death experiences in the Catholic world. Yet, she never told the whole story. Flaviano Patrizi reconstructed her complete testimony from recordings and extensive conversations with Gloria, incorporating the unpublished episodes. This reveals a first surprise: Gloria Polo affirms that she did not have just one near-death experience, but three.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\">The first allegedly occurred immediately after the lightning strike. She claimed she left her body, entered a luminous reality, and perceived deceased relatives and other people. The second occurred during her critical condition. This is where the most famous part of her testimony takes place: the journey to heaven, purgatory, hell, the book of life, the particular judgment, and the mission to return and share what she lived through. Afterward, she regained consciousness, but her story was not yet over. She understood that she needed to share publicly what she had lived through, but fear began to overwhelm her. Her sister, who was a doctor, doubted her account and even took her to a psychologist and a psychiatrist, believing those experiences might simply be the product of her medical state. Gloria thought that if her sister didn&#8217;t believe her, it would be impossible to convince anyone else. So, she decided internally to keep silent.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">However, she then suffered a new respiratory crisis, separated from her body once again, and began falling towards the abyss she had seen before. This time she says she clearly perceived a demonic presence claiming her and trying to drag her into that darkness. She interpreted this as having just received a mission and having just renounced it out of fear. She then asked forgiveness and promised to share her experience even if no one believed her. At that moment the descent stopped and she regained consciousness.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">Furthermore, during her first out-of-body experience, Gloria describes having a completely different form of perception compared to human vision. She claims she could perceive a huge number of living and deceased people simultaneously. She did not need to turn her head or direct her gaze towards them; it was as if she could encompass everything at once without the limitations of space or physical senses. The stranger part, according to Gloria, was that she did not just perceive the exterior appearance of people\u2014she could also know their interior. She captured the thoughts, feelings, intentions, and spiritual state of those she saw. Distance also did not seem to function as it does in ordinary life; she could perceive relatives who were far away and deceased individuals as if they were standing right in front of her. She interpreted this ability as a consequence of being separated from the body, noting that physical eyes limit our perception to only a small fraction of reality. This recalls the extraordinary qualities that tradition attributes to the glorified body.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">While hospitalized,<\/span> Gloria Polo also confirms that she perceived presences she identified as malevolent. One episode occurred while she was in the operating room; she recalls seeing humanlike figures emerging from the walls and approaching her. To Gloria, those presences were demonic beings filled with hatred and directly linked to her sins.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">Another even stranger episode followed. While she was still in the hospital, her sister brought her a television to keep her company during recovery. Gloria states that when she turned it on, she began to see unclean spirits coming out of the device and moving around people. She interpreted that vision as a revelation about the spiritual influence certain television content could exert on those who consume it.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">Gloria also states that some of her out-of-body experiences were perceived by other people. One such case involved her eldest daughter. While Gloria was out of her body, she spiritually approached her daughter and tried to embrace her, and the child, who was in a different location, felt that hug. A similar event occurred with the mother of her nephew Eduardo. Gloria states she saw Eduardo, who had already passed away, spiritually approach his mother and embrace her. At that exact moment, the woman supposedly felt a sudden wave of anguish and fell to the floor. The most striking case, however, was that of her husband, Fernando, who was present when the accident happened. Gloria recounts that he saw the souls of Gloria and Eduardo leaving their bodies and rising, and Fernando began screaming at her to return because she had children. Gloria affirms that while she was out of her body, she could hear those shouts.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Gloria&#8217;s supernatural experiences<\/span> did not end when she left the hospital. Years later, she had new visions related to deceased individuals and the destiny of souls. Among them, she speaks of souls in purgatory, dying persons, and souls she identified as damned. In one of those experiences, she specifically saw young people who had died by suicide suffering in need of prayers and offered eucharistic sacrifices.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\">Some visions allowed her to understand when a dying person was in spiritual need. One of the most impactful episodes involved her own husband, Fernando, who died suddenly of a heart attack in 2006 while Gloria was away from him. Gloria recounts that around the time of his death, she began feeling strangely unwell. Then she felt as though arms were holding her tightly by the shoulders and moving down her body, almost making her fall. Shortly after, she received the news that Fernando had passed away. Gloria interpreted that sensation as a supernatural perception of the exact moment her husband left this world.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\">Years later, another phenomenon emerged. Following the pandemic, Gloria began receiving locutions that she attributes to the Virgin Mary. In one of them, she claims to have received a mission to promote a 24-hour prayer chain starting in Colombia and later extending to other countries. The purpose was to form a kind of spiritual wall through the rosary. In April 2024, she stated she received an even more unsettling warning. She spoke of the danger of a global-scale war and asserted that a time would come when humanity would wake up in a world devastated by war. She urged people to prepare primarily on a spiritual level through the rosary, confession, the Eucharist, and constant prayer, while also recommending keeping a basic reserve of water and food as a prudent means against a potential crisis.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\">Some of these later experiences were precisely what Gloria wanted to put into writing. However, according to her account, when she began compiling them, something even stranger happened. Gloria had written several unpublished supernatural accounts on a laptop when one of the oddest episodes in her history occurred. An invisible force took the computer and violently hurled it against the wall. The impact destroyed the device and the stored content was lost. She interpreted the event as a demonic action aimed at preventing those experiences from coming to light. For a time, that material vanished with the computer, but Gloria eventually reconstructed those accounts from memory and transmitted them once again to Flaviano Patrizi.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\">These experiences of Gloria Polo remind us that spiritual reality can be much broader than what we manage to perceive with our senses.
