GO WITH THE FLOW OF THE HOLY SPIRIT INSTEAD OF THE STRUCTURES AND STRICTURES AND TIMELINES OF MAN
Go with the flow of God instead of the strictures and structures and timelines of man. Time is on your side when you go with God, because God is timeless.
He knows no schedule, has no boundaries, and doesn't want us to be bound.
Yes, we humans, while on earth, have to have certain schedules. And, yes: discipline is important. In the spiritual way, very important. It is a lesson of Lent.
But how often are we swept into a mode of hurriedness, nervousness, and even frenzy -- heart beating, anxiety overcoming -- because we're too tightly tethered to a preconceived regimen (or cell phone)?
When we do that, when we are overly regimented, there is less room for the Holy Spirit.
Let go. Just pray to let go.
Being busy is one thing; being frenzied, from overattachment, is another.
As they say, let go and let God.
"Jesus, take over!"
"God, take over!"
"Oh, Holy Spirit!"
Break through the clouds to Him.
"Blessed Mother, take over."
It is a prayer we may want to say every morning, and throughout the day, until we "get it," until we clock into His Grace and break out of superficial timelines that shorten our years through stress, a killer. "Oh, God, oh Lord, let me go with your flow instead of the structures and strictures and timelines of man."
The greatest inspirations and creativities and inventions come in a way that's spontaneous. Rigidity (including with prayer) can be your enemy. At its extreme, look at the rigidity of goose-stepping soldiers. What could they really do and where could they really go, walking like that? Who and what could they fight?
Get rid of the starch in your spirit.
This doesn't mean to be so loose and nonchalant that there's disorder, that things that need to be done don't get done; God doesn't like sloppiness -- and certainly not laziness -- either. Discipline is a key to happiness. Don't use spontaneity as an excuse for procrastination or dodging your duties. We all have duties. And we do have to get to work on time!
But can we let up a little? Can we look at the clock a little less and the Cross a little more? Can we get more direct, with God, with Jesus, this Holy Week?
Let His Passion be your calendar; tell time by the beat of His Heart.
