Dream That Predicted Storms Also Hints At 'Dark Skies' And Coming Turbulence

A while back I wrote about dreams. From time to time, most people have striking ones -- in some cases, dreams that seem to come true or at least present some kind of future indication. I wrote last spring about how I had a dream that contained the message, "This is the time of the dark water," which was followed days later by news of a strange area of dark algae off the Florida coast -- what became famous as "black water."

Are dreams really relevant? Can they materialize? Are they not documented in Scripture from Abimelech to Joseph?

Last Saturday night or in the wee hours of Sunday I had a dream that was even more vivid than the one involving Florida. In it I was heading to a place that looked like a rest stop or storage area along a roadway. In the dream I recognized it as a place that recently had been very famous. I had the feeling that it was related to the D.C. sniper, but in the dream I was in the Cincinnati area. I was there with employees of some kind of state agency.

I got out of a car, and when I walked halfway along the stop, looking around -- wondering at being at this famous place -- there to the west, behind a small copse of trees and a small utility building, I saw a horrible storm. There were at least a dozen funnel clouds. They were in a line parallel to the rest stop -- but still a short distance behind it. Most had not yet touched down, but there were a bunch of them. In the dream I told those with me, the state workers, and began walking at a brisk pace away from the threatening twisters. It was very eerie. I can still see all those funnels and a sky that was so preternaturally dark.

I awoke Sunday to news of tornadoes in Tennessee. For a moment I wondered if this was related to my dream, but I discounted that as too vague a connection. As the day progressed, however, matters became more interesting. I told my wife about it. By afternoon the Weather Channel was reporting a line of potential tornadic activity in Ohio -- west of Cincinnati. By Monday, more than 24 hours after my dream, the lead story on all major national networks was the series of storms that hit six states and at this writing have killed 33. There were at least 45 tornadoes reported! Moreover, there were fears a tornado might strike where the sniper had been -- the Washington, D.C. area (fortunately, they did not). "As officials battled to assess the devastation, the National Weather Service issued tornado warnings across a wide swath of territory from Mississippi through South Carolina and Virginia even Washington D.C.," reported Reuters News Service.

I have to tell you, however, that my impression was that the dream is not just a meteorological forecast but also a metaphor. I believe what it is saying is that the sniper incident will be followed by major storms -- and not just the tornadoes of last weekend. There has been a climate shift; it is historically significant. It will cause alterations. The darkness also symbolizes evil. There are coming societal and spiritual upheavals. I believe the dream was saying that there will be great turbulence -- that now is the time of the dark skies as well as the mysteriously dark water.
