Sent
to Earth (Michael Brown)
Throughout the centuries, since Noah, there have been strange times: periods
when floods, earthquakes, tidal waves, storms, droughts, plagues, volcanoes, and
even asteroid or comet activity have haunted the earth.
The hints are right there in the nightly news. It's about to happen again.
God is poised to send major events, and it's for a simple reason. Like the
people in ancient times, we've allowed evil to build up, and as a result we
face happenings everywhere.
This is the book Mother Angelica has called 'awesome.' As featured
too by Archbishop Philip Hannan of New Orleans.

PROPHECY POINTED TO ONSET OF PURIFICATION AS CHASTISEMENTS OCCURRING ON 'REGIONAL' SCALE
[adapted from Michael H. Brown's Tower of Light]
On January 23, 1994 – the Sunday following a major quake in Los Angeles – the New Testament reading at Masses around the world was from 1 Corinthians 7:29-31: "I tell you, brothers, the time is short." It seemed to underscore that disasters can be chastisements and that more were on the way.
It is a mystery, especially a Lenten mystery: how suffering brings clarity.
But it does. "Events come almost as a release of dark tension," a priest in India named Father Joseph Lionel wrote after the great Asian tsunami of 2004, which caused damage where he is stationed. "God allows it. The good suffer with the evil.
"There are victim souls and always have been," the Indian cleric had added. "Perhaps they serve as victim souls to warn the entire world of the global darkness or perhaps they are the victims of evil that opened the door to disaster that caused the region to be susceptible."
Nature reflects "the chaos in the spiritual order," observed another priest. "You see that right from the Garden of Eden."
Yet most in Western churches resist the notion of chastisement.
One might prefer to call it "purification," and so disasters are purifying. But it's wrong to soft-pedal them: the Bible speaks in both Testaments of punishments when mankind strays.
Chastisements. Regional chastisements. The "1990 prophecy" had said that "chastisements" would come and would "differ according to regions, and like the great evil [which was also predicted], will not always or usually be immediately noticeable for what they are."
All told there were 43 sentences in this presumed revelation that we have often cited and the pertinent point is that it stood as an affirmation that "regional" events would follow the message -- thus indicating that the 1990s would be precursory and full of little hints of what else might happen.
That turned out to be more than true.
Indeed, the Nineties saw record northeasters, fantastic flooding in Central America (from a hurricane), monumental floods in Asia, dramatic temperature variations, record tornadoes, and a tremendous mudslide near Caracas in Venezuela -- with many thousands killed.
More recently: the Haitian quake, disastrous flooding on the Portuguese island of Madeira, and winter storms in North America (record snow in Dallas).
To give us an idea of what could happen: the storm in Central America had destroyed seventy percent of crops, ravaged a system of bridges that had taken five decades to construct, and set back the entire infrastructure of this region for years – the terrain altered to such an extent that officials had to use satellites to remap rivers. Global warming -- or global warning?
For months, starving sallow-skinned kids haunted the rural areas while a volcano began to rumble and glow twenty miles from a collapsed lake.
These were foretastes -- the prophecy seemed to say -- a "gradual" intensification.
Sometimes, it wasn’t quite so gradual.
From 1991 to 1996 the number of "severe" storms recorded by weather officials jumped from 6,500 to 9,200. Hailstorms in one stretch tripled. There were intense El Niños. But overall the build-up was not such that a singular event grabbed the world’s attention – not yet. Instead, month after month, year after year, was the sense of things grinding on.
The Lord was on a different frame of time – if you could say He was on any time (in eternity there was no such calculation). Was He in the hurricane? Not always, said 1Kings. But added Isaiah 66:15, "For behold, the Lord will come in fire, and His chariots like the whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire."
In 1997 the World Wide Fund for Nature reported that more tropical forest burned than in any other time in recorded history.
Indeed it is difficult to find a part of Scripture that doesn’t settle on natural events as something used by God to purify (but always with the opportunity for mercy).
The Lord sent a pestilence over Israel from morning until the time appointed, said 2 Samuel 24:15-16, and seventy thousand of the people from Dan to Beersheba died. "But when the angel stretched forth his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the Lord regretted the calamity and said to the angel causing the destruction among the people, 'Enough now! Stay your hand.'"
There were angels. As in the secret of Fatima, angels were sent to chastise. And as at Fatima, the Blessed Mother was dulling the fire of chastisement -- for the time being, alleviating it, as she marshalled prayer.
There had been a tremendous sway of forces.
It wasn't just the "normal" sin. It wasn't just sexual immorality, and abortion, and selfishness; it wasn't just blasphemy, though all this was rampant. Now, there was great degradation of His Creation and genetic manipulation.
It was in this whirlwind of genetics, in this intoxication, that came the flurry of newly cloned animals. By the year 2000, the cloning of pigs – and early-stage human embryos – was in progress, and a culture of synthetics, a culture spawned many decades before, a couple centuries back, was now reaching its highest manifestation, or at least its most dangerous one.
Man had long altered nature; he needed to burn wood, or build with it. He needed the ores of the earth. He cleared land for farms. He culled its minerals. That was one thing: the utilization of what nature provided. But through the centuries, humans had become increasingly emboldened.
What had started as a cultivation of nature, a utilization of it, had changed into an alteration of it. Men sought to reinvent aspects of Creation, often with the strident energy of the alchemist – those old occultic scientists who promoted the hybridization of plants, who looked to cross-breed the ideal animal, and who sought to transform lead to gold.
Although they never realized that goal, they did see the germination of a stepchild called chemistry that swiftly caused dramatic effects as the goal remained the same: altering the nature of nature.
This was also reflected in the practice of pharmakeia, a Greek word describing the pursuit of potions through witchcraft.
Pharmakeia had become pharmacopeia which became pharmaceutical in the way of drugs – from ammonium carbonate to sulfur.
A synthetic world was rising everywhere. And now, so was upheaval in nature. How innocent it now seemed: the simple cause of medicine. After the Renaissance, there had been an explosion of artificial compounds, and in the early 1900s the first completely man-made substance, a liquid resin called bakelite, was manufactured as the precursor of plastic and now similar techniques, now the same kind of chemicals, now the derivatives, the cousins, were being applied to organic tissues in forming synthetic life as the ultimate in alchemy.
The very nature of reality, of the earth, was changing.
It was the "fruit" of distance from God.
The concept of faith -- of belief beyond what humans could tabulate -- was seemingly tossed out the window in an age when it had been shown so clearly that a finite series of physical laws were enough to create "magic."
Now, in the fore of a class, a professor could fold his arms in a rustle of tweed, stoke a flourish of beard, plant a pipe firmly between his teeth, and smile at the concept of God (or anything one could not see or measure).
And so a pattern described so economically in the 1990 prophecy (an anonymous locution in December of that year) was taking form. Upheaval was following the manipulation of God's Creation. You could feel the march. It was awesome to watch. It was also daunting. Nature had been manipulated for centuries, and now in the parade of storms and quakes and fires and flood, nature was having something to say about it.
There would be chastisements and we were seeing them on a regional scale as precursors.
This was also the theme of apparitions.
Throughout Catholicism, and in other denominations, was and remains a sense of impending events.
