Can use of something like the Ouija board lead to — tragedy?
We know about that case behind The Exorcist: how it was a boy in the Washington D.C. area (not a girl) whose aunt was fooling around with the Ouija and transferred the spirit. Now also this:

“On March 17, 1990, St. Patrick’s Day, Rachel Hurley and her friends spent the day boating at Jupiter Inlet. But around 2:45 p.m., Rachel got nervous about getting back to shore in time to meet her mother at 3 p.m. According to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Rachel’s partially-clothed body was found at 8:15 p.m. in a wooded area of Carlin Park, just east of a path leading south from Dubois Park. Some of Rachel’s clothes were scattered nearby.
“Just a few weeks before Rachel’s murder, the group of friends were playing with a Ouija board at a slumber party. Sheri told Dateline she remembers the question was, ‘who will be the first to die?’ The arrow spelled out ‘Rachel.’
“’Being Rachel, she yelled out “then do it, b—h!” as we laughed and played along,’ Sheri said. ‘But when we asked for a sign, the house alarm went off and we lost it. It was just… weird. Not long after that, she was gone.’”
For your consideration.
Just remember to cleanse yourself this Lent, and that means of everything that has to do with mediumship, psychic phenomena, horoscopes, fortune-telling, Tarot cards, superstitious objects (yes, even cute kitchen witches), malocha, smudging, crystals, auras, channeling, dreamcatchers, TM, yoga, and certainly Ouija. And more.
The message from Medjugorje this month says, “Dear Children! Also today I am with you to tell you: Little children, who prays does not fear the future and does not lose hope. You are chosen to carry joy, and peace because you are mine. I have come here with the name ‘Queen of Peace’ because the devil wants peacelessness and war, he wants to fill your heart with fear of the future – but the future is God’s. That is why, be humble and pray, and surrender everything into the hands of the Most High Who created you. Thank you for having responded to my call. ”
This — and the intercession of Mary — would have saved the day, we believe, for a non-denominational preacher who perhaps succumbed to fear: overestimating the devil’s power and underestimating that of the Lord’s Blood.
A good cleansing prayer for Lent, from an exorcist:
I ask Jesus to bind in the Most Precious Blood any and all evil curses, pacts, spells, seals, hexes, vexes, triggers, trances, vows, demonic blessings, voodoo, or any other demonic bondages sent against N. or myself, or any of our loved ones or any of our possessions; I ask Him to bind them all and break them in the Name of the Father and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. (Thrice)
Another form:
I ask Jesus to bind any evil spirits associated with any and all evil curses, pacts, spells, seals, hexes, vexes, triggers, trances, vows, demonic blessings, or any other demonic bondages sent against N. or myself, or any of our loved ones or any of our possessions, and I ask Thee to bind all evil spirits separately and individually and break all seals. In the Name of the Father and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. (Thrice)
And:
Heavenly Father, in the name of Your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, I denounce Satan and all his works, all forms of witchcraft, the use of divination, the practice of sorcery, dealing with mediums, channeling with spirit guides, the Ouija board, astrology, Reiki, hypnosis, automatic writing, horoscopes, numerology, all types of fortune telling, palm readings, levitation, and anything else associated with the occult or Satan. I denounce and forsake my involvement in all of them in the Name of Jesus Christ who came in the flesh, and by the power of His cross, His Blood and His resurrection, I break their hold over my life.
I confess all these sins before You and ask You to cleanse and forgive me. I ask You Lord Jesus to enter my heart and create in me the kind of person You have intended me to be. I ask You to send forth the gifts of your Holy Spirit to baptize me, just as You baptized your disciples on the day of Pentecost.
I thank you heavenly Father for strengthening my inner spirit with the power of Your Holy Spirit, so that Christ may dwell in my heart. Through faith, rooted and grounded in love, may I be able to comprehend with all the saints, the breadth, length, height and depth of Christ’s love which surpasses all understanding. Amen.
Let’s hear it one more time: “You are chosen to carry joy, and peace because you are mine. I have come here with the name ‘Queen of Peace’ because the devil wants peacelessness and war, he wants to fill your heart with fear of the future – but the future is God’s.”
Go in peace — to battle, yes, but with eyes trained on victory in the war.
