Elder Gabriel Urgebadze was a Georgian Orthodox saint (born August 26, 1929) who spent the latter part of his life at the Samtavro Monastery in Mtskheta, Georgia, living in a small, ancient stone tower, where he received and counseled countless pilgrims.

He is frequently quoted for emphasizing that love is the ultimate requirement for entering the Kingdom of Heaven. His spiritual children often recall his maxim: “If you hate even a single person—you are disgusting before God.”
He “died in the Lord” on November 2, 1995, and was buried in the Samtavro monastery courtyard. Countless healings have been reported at his grave, leading the Georgian Orthodox Church to formally canonize him as a saint in 2012.
