A Tennessee death row inmate is awake and talking after surviving two doses of a lethal injection drug during a failed execution, her attorneys said Tuesday. Christa Pike continues to receive critical medical care following Tennessee’s attempt to execute her last Wednesday, her attorneys said in a statement posted on the Mercy for Christa website.
“Against all odds, Christa Pike is conscious, speaking, and continues to receive critical medical care,” the statement said. They said Pike remains handcuffed and shackled to her hospital bed despite severe damage to her arms. “Her recovery is medically unprecedented. Her prognosis remains unclear but, at a minimum, we expect a long recovery,” the statement said.
