Your latest special report made me think of St. Francis’s response to such situations where a vision may be false.  The story is in the Little Flowers of St. Francis, Part One, Chapter 29, How St. Francis freed Brother Rufino from a Temptation of the Devil.

It is a worthwhile short read.  The key is humility and obedience.  If you note, the person who would not listen to Father Rosetti refused to obey and be humble.  Brother Rufino was humble and obedient.
