Signs As 2025 Begins

Oh, if the weather has something to say!—perhaps something is in the wind.

And lightning?

As the New Year ticked in, bolts of it from the sky struck the U.S. Capitol, the Washington Monument, the World Trade Center, and the Empire State Building all at roughly the same “hour,” certainly the same day.

This occurred along with an abnormal fog that was reported from the Northeast to Florida, causing an understandably uncanny sensation.

At the same time, terror was again striking these “United” States, killing fifteen and injuring dozens in New Orleans (where New Year’s revelry is keen, where the Super Bowl will be held, and where had been planned a major college football playoff game, now delayed), while a truck bomb operated by a homegrown Muslim terrorist exploded in front of the Trump International Hotel in another city, Las Vegas, known for festivities.

The truck was one of those odd-looking cyber ones manufactured by almost-zillionaire Elon Musk, key adviser to the incoming president.

Another attack. And now a third in Queens, New York.

It did not pass without note that Hurricane Sandy once swamped the Statue of Liberty (closing it for more than a year in 2012) in the same city where the collapse of the old World Trade Center caused a seismic pulse that left a substantial crack in Federal Hall, where George Washington was sworn in and the Bill of Rights were signed.

As for the Washington Monument, it had been closed after the seismic pulse of a quake that struck near Richmond, Virginia (circa 2011).

The liturgical saint of the day (1/2/25) is Pope Gregory the Great, who, among many things, emphasized the increasing wickedness of humanity, moral decay, and spiritual apathy as signs of the end. He said natural disasters—famines, earthquakes, plagues, and other natural calamities—can be manifestations of Divine judgment and precursors to the end. Drawing from 2 Thessalonians 2, he spoke of the “mystery of iniquity” already at work in the world, paving the way for the Antichrist’s arrival. Are we in a microcosm of this?

The reading the day before the New Year (12/31/24): “Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that the antichrist was coming, so now many antichrists have appeared. Thus we know this is the last hour.”

The reading today (1/2/25): “Beloved: Who is the liar? Whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Whoever denies the Father and the Son, this is the antichrist.”

Is that spirit not upon us, these past few decades? Has not the Creche been obscured by the lights of paganism?

The question of how to read these sirenic tea leaves is up to the individual.

Major events occur during many administrations. Will they now heighten, as with Covid? Or will they now settle down?

That, is the key query—which got off to such a rollicking flashy start—is the question.
