Father William Coffas, pastor of Holy Cross Church on Lake Avenue, said a statue of the Virgin Mary was taken from the grotto on church property over the weekend.
“We can’t explain this,” Coffas said. “Why would somebody want to do this?” “We would ask that the statue please be returned as soon as possible,” he said. “And we also pray, most importantly, for the person who was under the conviction that they decided to steal the statue. Obviously, we cannot steal — that’s one of the commandments.”
