Justin Evans, known as Brother Ignatius, disappeared from the Golgotha Monastery on Papa Stronsay, a remote island north of Orkney. He was part of the traditionalist Catholic order, the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer, which was ordered to leave the Diocese of Aberdeen in July 2024 after an investigation into allegations of abuse and unauthorized exorcisms. When he disappeared, Brother Ignatius, originally from New Zealand, was wearing his characteristic white robe.

Police said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the disappearance. Inspector David Hall said: ‘Our thoughts are very much with Justin’s family at what is a very difficult time.
