Statue To Be Moved?

The Virgin Mary statue atop Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden is lighted blue Thursday in honor of the Chicago Cubs´ World Series victory. The hospital has a $100 million plan to transform the campus and lop the top off its landmark building, moving the iconic statue to ground level.

The beloved Virgin Mary statue atop Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center survived an earthquake – but may not be able to withstand the evolution of the health care business intact.

A proposed $100 million modernization of Lourdes’ main campus on Haddon Avenue in Camden could involve removing the statue and reinstalling it on the grounds.

But a final decision has not been made.
