A major, 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck in Colombia on Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The temblor happened at 7:34 a.m. Colombia time, data from the agency shows, about 3 miles east of San José del Palmar, Colombia – about 150 miles west of Bogotá, the capital.
Nubia Carolina Córdoba-Curi, the governor of the Chocó region, said on social media that there were injuries and severe damage to buildings in Quibdó, the capital of the region where about 140,000 people live. The shaking could be felt as far as Bogotá and even some parts of neighboring Venezuela but there were no reports of damage or injuries there.
