A transgender nurse is out of a job and facing up to a decade in prison after police allege he inflicted broken bones and bruises on a premature newborn in his care at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
Kieran Ansley, 43, was fired and charged with two felony counts of second-degree child abuse and two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree child abuse following his arrest in early September. Log for the infant’s room showed it was entered 32 times overnight on April 2, with Ansley accounting for 27 of the visits. Tests revealed broken bones in both legs, with factures near the knee and shin bones near the ankles, as well as a smaller bone in the lower leg. There were also numerous bruises to both of the infant’s hands, arms, thigh, shin, buttocks, abdomen, and tongue, court records allege.
